Kuala Lumpur: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal on Monday reiterated his call for more Sabah Members of Parliament (MPs) to be appointed Federal Ministers in recognition of the excellent performance of the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) in the recent general election.
Shafie, who is the Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister, said Sabah's huge geographical size and its multiracial and multi-ethnic population were important bases for the Sabah BN's demand.
Sabah BN won 24 of the 25 Parliamentary seats and 57 of the 60 State seats at stake in the State in the general election, held on March 8.
Asked how many additional ministerial posts the Sabah BN was hoping for, Shafie said the matter had been discussed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and that it would be left to Abdullah to decide.
He spoke at a news conference held at his Ministry on the 15th Regatta Lepa, the annual water festival of the Sea Bajau community of Semporna in Sabah.- Bernama
